Information

The Car Design Info Contest 2008 is now complete. The following is the information published during the contest.

 The Car Design Info Contest 2008 will start on Wednesday 16th January 2008 with the announcement of the lifestyle brief (see Brief)

The contest has two categories for entry: Professional Designer and Student Designer. The Professional Designer category includes anyone who works as a designer, the Student Designer category the Student Designer category is only for those enrolled in an accredited undergraduate or postgraduate design related degree course as of 16th January 2008.

Winners receive Autodesk DesignStudio Commercial software worth approximately $7000, $2000 in cash and 12 months individual membership of Car Design Info for both professional designer category winner and student designer category winner. Along with all finalists, winners will also have their submitted design prominently displayed in a dedicated Car Design Info Contest gallery and will have had their work scrutinised by several of the world's leading car designers (see Judges).

All entries have to be "snap shot" views of digital design models. These must be submitted on or before 26th March 2008 (see Entry Submissions). Entries will then be assessed according to the published assessment criteria (see Assessment Process). 10 finalist designs from the Professional Designer entries and 10 finalist designs from the Student Designer entries will then be selected. Finalists will be notified on 2nd April and provided with Autodesk AliasStudio software to use to develop their design entries further before final submission as complete digital model entries on or before 28th May 2008.

Wednesday 16th January 2008: Contest start, brief announced
Start of 10 week period for student and professional designers to design a vehicle that best responds to the brief, noting the assessment criteria also

Wednesday 26th March 2008: Deadline for entries
Design entries are uploaded on or before this date as four "snap shot" views of the entrant's digital design model

Wednesday 2nd April 2008: Finalists notified
Finalists are notified, as are unsuccessful entrants, with finalists then provided with AliasStudio software to progress their design entry in

Wednesday 28th May 2008: Deadline for finalists' entries
Finalists' design entries as AliasStudio digital models are uploaded on or before this date

Wednesday 25th June 2008: Winners notified
Winners and other finalists are notified of the final judging outcome

Wednesday 2nd July 2008: On-line gallery
Winners and finalists design work is shown on a new Car Design Info Contest on-line gallery
